Creflo Dollar: Jesus-Based Relationships

Jesus-Based Relationships - Creflo Dollar - Creflo Dollar Ministriesby: Creflo Dollar

When we observe others and the relationships they enter into, we see that not every relationship is the same. Some are simple and straightforward, and based on honesty and respect. Others are filled with drama and pain, and the people in them are frequently hurt or emotionally damaged.  There are rocky relationships, and then there are relationships based on the Rock.

When I say the Rock, I mean Jesus, Who is God in human form. One of the reasons Jesus came to earth was to show us how to live successful lives, and happy relationships are a huge part of His plan for us. The Bible is filled with references to God as the Rock, because when we lose our footing on what we thought was a strong relationship, we can always depend on Him for strength and stability. “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings” (Psalm 40:1, 2).

Too many people anxiously rush into relationships without thinking, and they pay a high price. When we have the patience to wait on God and listen for His direction on who He wants us to be with, it will always go well. God’s will is to set us up in a relationship so good, we’ll feel joy through and through. “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1). He wants to save us from all the hurt and heartbreak being joined to the wrong person can cause.

As a father, I have done my best to teach all my children when they were growing up to take their time and be discerning when forming relationships. I taught them the value of self-respect, and how learning to love themselves empowered them to truly love others. Reading in the Bible about how the lives of so many people …were impacted when they got to know Jesus is eye-opening, and I can’t emphasize enough this all-important relationship with Him.

Building our relationships on Jesus instead of the things of the world isn’t popular with many people today, and it shows. We see failed marriages, broken friendships, and families torn apart by strife and violence. But God’s teachings have always been true, rock solid, and immovable. “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:  and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27, NKJV).

Whether it’s bonding with friends, family members, or spouses, any relationship is shaky if the Rock isn’t in the center of it. In the Old Testament when Moses led the people through the dry, parched desert, God kept them alive. “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4). Are your relationships built on the living Rock?
